Some people can tell, simply by looking at a design that it’s just…. not quite right. These right-brainers understand spatial relationships intuitively. They just know.

But many UX practitioners are not visual people. Most of us are analytical left-brainers who have trouble making our work appealing or desirable. We can’t easily create elegant interfaces from the solid user research and clear ideas we’ve cobbled together.

Science to the Rescue
Fortunately, there is real science behind effective user interfaces. There are hard-and-fast rules about appropriate interactive design. Heck, there are even proven mathematical formulas about it.

Left Brainers: Learn the rules so you can play the game.
Once you embrace these principles, laws, and guidelines, your UI work will become immediately better, even if you stopped doing art when you were five.

Right Brainers: Understand why you know what you know.
Wanna hear a juicy secret? Most visual designers don’t know the rules either. If you’re a creative UX professional, prepare for the power of the proof behind your intuition. Gather valuable ammunition for the next time your client or boss dismisses your excellently empirical idea as mere artwork.

See y’all there.
